DANGER ELECTRICAL SHOCK
Pinball machines have high voltages, which can cause DANGER TO LIFE AND LIMB. TURN POWER OFF and UNPLUG PINBALL MACHINE before installation. Pinball machines are high-voltage and can cause electrical shock.
SAFETY GLASSES are also recommended while working with or installing pinball parts.
Please follow these safety instructions as well as all installation instructions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the pinball machine, accessory, or other parts. Please see our Disclaimer for associated risks and responsibilities (Section 13 in our Terms of Service) prior to installation.
Images included in these instructions are of an installed prototype and may vary slightly from your product.
If you have questions or concerns regarding the proper installation of this part, please contact us for assistance.
When removing screws from the playfield, reinstall by first turning them counter-clockwise to match the original groove in order to respect the integrity of the playfield wood.
Note: The Balcony is in a black shipping case; snip the corners off to easily remove the case.
We offer several configuration options for this product. If you’d like the default setup shown in the product photos, you can skip this section.
Configurations
The first choice is the game version
- If you have the original Walking Dead game, you will need to glue on the TWD Mount (item #2 in the "What’s in the Box" section). Attach it to the bottom of the tower, then mount it using the screw shown here. This configuration has not been fully tested, and we do not yet have photos or detailed installation steps. The instructions below will help guide you through installing the Prison Tower on the original Walking Dead, but some steps may require adjustment. We apologize for the inconvenience.
- If you have the Walking Dead Remaster, then you can follow the rest of these instructions to install it.
Lighting options
The table below outlines each option and the components required, referencing the images above along with their corresponding numbers listed in the "What’s in the Box" section. Photos of these configurations are below the table for more context.

We don't have an image for: Top light on Red GI & Spotlight on White GI
Next are the roof options. Do NOT glue anything yet. We highly recommend trying it out without glue first:

Short Roof - Pushed DownAllows for all the GI to stay in (recommend removing all of them for the install then reinstall the bulbs) Short Roof - Pushed UpKeeps the outer two GI bulbs in (recommend removing all of them for the install then reinstall the bulbs) Tall Roof - Pushed UpRemoves all three GI bulbs |
Install
For this install, we'll be using the TWDR "Spotlight on GI and Tower interactive" and the "Tall Roof - Pushed Up" shown above, for other configurations, the install is the same, more or less. We will try to keep the other configurations in mind, but apologies for any confusion.
-
We need to plug in the selected wire configuration, the red GI to the Splitter, and then to the ILS.
- Open and lift up your playfield; don't forget to remove or block your pinballs. In the bottom right corner, theres are red GI bulb, in the second photo it's already removed. It's right by the metal bracket for the elevated PCB.
- We used a 1/4 nut driver to unscrew the GI bracket, but a flathead screwdriver can work.
-
Push and twist the factory GI bulb out and plug in the prison tower wiring from step 1, then screw the bracket back in, making sure the wire is pulled back towards the bottom of the playfield.
- Grab the black wire coming out of the ILS that has a small PCB at the end, feed it up behind the pinball machine's elevated PCB (red arrows), and slide the wire into the triangle cutout (this is the Tower lane light and the yellow arrow in the photo). Use the factory LED board to slightly pinch the ILS wire, just enough to hold the small board in.
-
There should be two JST plugs at the bottom/back of your playfield now, one interactive and the other red GI. Lay the playfield back down, but still on the rails.
-
Unscrew the backboard screw in the center, just under the three GI bulbs, and screw on the TWDR mount. This screw can easily strip the wood. Do NOT overtighten. Don't worry about the placement of the mount for now, just get it on. (Skip for the original Walking Dead)
- Back to the Tower, grab the balcony and slide it onto the tower's groove. When gluing, glue in the groove and the back, do NOT glue yet. If glued, allow it to fully dry and cure according to the instructions on the adhesive packaging before proceeding with mounting.
- Recommended
Place the tower in the game and preview the different options before gluing anything in place. We highly recommend turning the game on while testing your setup (power off, adjust, then power on, and repeat as needed). The instructions will continue as if a final decision has been made, but we encourage you to read ahead so you can reference the next steps while exploring your options. -
Apply glue and place the desired roof on the tower, also glue the balcony on at the same time, allow the gule dry and cure according to the instructions on the adhesive packaging before proceeding with mounting. (If you're installing onto the original Walking Dead, this would be a good time to glue on the TWD Mount)
- Test with a piece of paper to make sure the tower is completely dry before moving on. The last thing we want is the tower super-glued to your backboard.
Place the two small tapes onto the back of the tower, and remove the covers. - Slide the tower onto the mount while holding the bottom of the tower slightly away from the backboard so the adhesive does not stick yet (red arrow). Hook the tower onto the mount (blue arrow), making sure the top of the mount is inside the tower's roof (green arrow). Pull down on both the tower and the mount (the mount may shift slightly), then push the top of the tower toward the backboard. You should feel or hear the mount click into place.
Once it is seated, adjust the tower and mount it up or down to your desired position. When you are ready, stop holding the bottom away from the backboard and press the tower firmly against it. Hold pressure for 5–15 seconds to allow the adhesive to bond.
This is the trickiest part of the installation, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Here is a helpful tip: place the tape covers back onto the adhesive, or use a piece of wax paper if available. This prevents premature sticking and makes it much easier to remove the covers once the tower is properly positioned. - Feed the spotlight wire down between the backboard and the far back lane wall (red arrow). To create enough space, gently push the lane wall forward from the back so the wire clip can pass through. Once the clip is through, the wire itself will easily feed down into place. Continue feeding the wire until it is fully hidden and no longer visible on the playfield (blue arrow).
-
For the top wire, route it over the backboard. Use the wire clip on the back of the backboard to secure the cable, then feed it straight down through the lanes and other components until it is fully concealed. Plug the top light into the ILS (blue arrow) and the spotlight into the splitter (red arrow), or your desired configuration.
- Enjoy
