What is the difference between a Williams and Stern Drop Target?

You can tell if you have received a Stern vs. Williams translucent drop target by using the following image.

In all instances, the Stern target will ship with the opto sensor painted black. If this is not painted black, the opto will not work properly.

In some cases, the Williams target requires the opto sensor to be painted black. As of 2025, Mezel Mods only sells on variation with this requirement: the Pinball Brothers, Alien APC target illumination.
