Kong - Ramp Illumination

DANGER ELECTRICAL SHOCK

Pinball machines have high voltages which can cause DANGER TO LIFE AND LIMB. TURN POWER OFF and UNPLUG PINBALL MACHINE prior to installation. Pinball machines are high voltage and can cause electrical shock.
SAFETY GLASSES are also recommended while working with or installing pinball parts.

When removing screws from the playfield, reinstall by first turning them counter-clockwise to match the original groove in order to respect the integrity of the playfield wood.

Install difficulty: Medium

Tools needed: 1/4 nutdriver/wrench.

Prelude: This is one of the more odd ramp illumination we have come up with, but it’s for good reason. Unfortunately, due to the way the ramp is made, we have not found a simple way to get a light in the subway ramp for PREM/LE games. If we figure out a way to do it, it will be in a separate product [If such a product exists, it can be found in this section] However, we can add one to the Biplane ramp and the Skull Island exit. 

1. Turn off game. Remove glass from game and set in a safe and secure location.
2. If you have gameblades/ art blades, place the Pinball Cabinet Assembly Protectors on each side of the machine. Next remove the pinballs from the trough.
3. Move the playfield so that it sits on the rails. We recommend playfield jacks for the first part of this ramp illumination, though it can be done without them.
4. First install the Skull island exit LED. There is a large metal bracket that covers the whole ramp assembly. On the left side of the large metal piece are two screws near the top. Remove the screws.
5. Make sure that the small piece of tape is on the back of the LED board.
6. Next, slide the LED board under the metal bracket. Make sure the tape is holding the LED board in place and make sure that the connection point is still visible. Then screw the screws removed in part 3 back into place.
    
7. Next, for the biplane ramp, put the Medium piece of tape on the backside of the bracket, then place the bracket over the biplane ramp. 
   Now, take wiring harness (shown as 3 in parts photo) and plug  the 2-way matrix splitter into the LED board and the bracketed light. One side is shorter than the other, and we recommend plugging the shorter side into the LED board and using the longer side for the bracketed light. Leave hanging in the cabinet until step 9.
   
8. Next, lift the playfield up into the service position.
    
9. Locate a GI bulb such as the three shown below. They are located next to the scoop mechanism. 
   Unscrew the screw holding the bayonet and remove the factory #44 bulb. 
   
   Replace it with the GI matrix bulb provided, pressing the dome down so it is somewhat flush. Finally reattach the bayonet to the playfield leaving the wire harness below the playfield. 
   
10. For Interactive version precede to next section. Otherwise, attach wire harness from illumination on ramps to GI Matrix bulb and installation is complete. 

INTERACTIVE LIGHT SENSOR INSTRUCTIONS

1. Select the trigger you want to use for the ramp illumination. One following inserts are recommended- note the Climb insert will be lit the most frequently. The following instructions are for the Climb Insert (a similar installation can be used for other inserts).
   
2. Feed light sensor wiring through bracket and attach to screw holding light board 9C. 
   
   
3. Remove three bottom screws holding Light Board 9b to the playfield
   
4. Slightly lift board 9b and place Light sensor inside of arrow shaped Climb insert while putting board back into place. Reattach board, making sure light sensor stays inside insert. Adjust bracket as needed to help hold light sensor in place. 
   
    
5. Now, take Ramp Wiring Harness and plug into the ILS board connector (on side where ILS wiring is attached). Plug the remaining wire (on other side of ILS board) to the GI Bulb connection from step 10 in the previous section. Utilize small adhesive to attach ILS board to playfield
   
6. Done!
